The Most Popular Social Networking Websites

LONDON, ENGLAND - MARCH 25: In this photo ill...
The most popular websites on the Internet today are social networking sites. People of all ages use them, and they have become the trendiest way to connect with new people and reconnect with old friends. That being said, it is very easy for your personal information to spread like wildfire over the web, so here is some advice on how to keep your private information private.
Always use a strong password. Make it complicated enough not to be guessed but not so complicated that you can't remember it. Use both letters and numbers, and try a combination of capital and lowercase letters to really lock down your stuff.
Changing your password regularly reduces the likelihood of attacks. If you ever lose a device that has your password on it, make sure you change it at once.
Try not to put your full birth date on your profile. Thieves can use your birthday to access your credit card information or get into your bank account. Hiding your information protects you.
Networking sites like Facebook and MySpace offer comprehensive privacy controls to regulate who has access to your profile. For example, you can make it so only friends that you have added can see your profile.
Privacy controls are useful protecting your information as well as your photos. Pictures are very important to keep private, especially if embarrassing or otherwise compromising situations are depicted in them. They may be appropriate for friends, but potential employers are known to look at Facebook profiles.
Creepy people pervade the Internet. Predators stalk people's pictures, looking for children to prey upon. So don't post pictures of your kids, and certainly don't tag them in any photos. You could be opening them up to danger.
People who use social networking sites should always be mindful of safety. It is up to you to protect yourself. Happy networking!
