iTune's Ping...

Consequently, I lastly gave Apple’s new social community a bash. iTunes Ping appears to be a try to attach music lovers and iTunes customers, most likely within the hopes of generating more music sales.

That half made sense, however when you signed as much as Ping, it feels such as you’re facing a clean wall.

Here are stuff you can do with Ping:

    * Follow Individuals
    * Display Latest Activity on iTunes
    * Submit Improvements on top of Purchases plus Evaluations
    * Acquire Live presentation Alerts

In fact, there’s one main requirement needed - you need to have an iTunes account (not the iTunes software but a valid iTunes account).

Then, the issue begins there - iTunes nonetheless does not support the Philippines. You’ll must have a US iTunes account (or another country where iTunes is on the market).

That single single prerequisite alone has (in all probability) lower off 99.9% of the net population in the country.

The Concert Alerts sounds good but then, when you search Ping on your favourite bands, they aren't there. Okay, maybe we can wait 6 months or a year till the network turns into populated also hopefully, more usable. Come to think of it, Fb and Twitter didn’t take pleasure in an in a single day success in the Philippines.

Ping can also be tied up with iTunes. You simply can’t go and use any computer, fire up a browser and go to a URL similar to ping.apple.com to verify in your profile or network. Apple assumes you'll at all times have your Macbook, iPhone, iPad with you everytime you need to login to Ping.

Apple’s very “controlling” policy on all-issues-Apple doesn’t sit well within the realm of social media - one can’t even upload and examine Profile Photos in real-time. Apple has to overview your pictures first earlier than making it public. Steve Jobs mentioned it himself - “Freedom From Porn”. Unsure although how they will manually overview all these 1 million accounts which have already been created.

The Ping concept creates good enterprise sense - and I've little doubt Apple is going to make more money from all these social connections they’ve created round iTunes. I just thought the implementation was anything however compelling or attractive.
